Hosted by HCAD and The Learning and Development Initiative (LDI) the AI Summit in Design for educators just wrapped up. Introduced by Martina Decker the day started with a keynote by Gabrielle Esperdy. Beginning at the moment humans first picked up a tool and used fire, Esperdy charted a chain of disruptions in social and economic developments, technical innovations and design, to the present day, providing context to frame how we think about the role of AI in design in this moment.
Always an optimist β Esperdy drew out the disruptions, the inevitable reactions to them, and concluded with this comment, βThe goal of this keynote today is to remind you that we actually do need to look back in order to figure out how go forward β hopefully all these moments are moments of optimism. When with every change there was a reaction, even when they were initially negative, ultimately the next generation found some kind of creative power within them.β
Thank you to the team who made this possible Martina Decker, Michael Edmondson, Ph.D., Kerry Eberhardt, Michelle Del Vecchio, Miguel Rodrigues, Thomas Carlson, Nikki Bosca, Monica Nelson, Richard Thompson, and the participants who dedicated themselves to delving into AI in art and design for the day.
