The NJIT-Verizon Cybersecurity Workforce Development Program
This program is designed to bridge the digital divide and empower New Jersey residents with the essential skills needed to succeed in a modern, technology-driven workforce. Funded by a generous gift from Verizon, the initiative is focused on removing common digital and technological barriers to participation while equipping learners with practical technical proficiency that supports long-term career growth.
How the Program Works
The program is structured around four distinct cohorts, with the inaugural cohort launching in April 2026. Each cohort will take approximately 23 weeks to complete.
Participants will engage in a structured learning experience that combines flexible virtual instruction with essential scheduled in-person activities to strengthen engagement and applied learning.
The program offers a comprehensive curriculum designed for the modern economy, including:
- CompTIA Tech+ and A+ Certification Prep: Equipping participants with the foundational technical skills required for essential IT and telecommunications roles.
- NJIT AI Literacy Microcredential: Ensuring all participants are fluent in the ethical and practical applications of artificial intelligence, a critical skill set for the future of work.
- Cybersecurity Community of Practice: An opportunity for networking, real-world case studies, and ongoing professional development.
Most training is offered online, and laptops/internet are available for qualifying participants to assist with access. A variety of schedules are available to accommodate those who might have other obligations.
Time Commitment and Expectations
This is an intensive workforce development program designed for dedicated learners. Participants should anticipate a weekly commitment of approximately 20 hours for virtual coursework plus additional time for independent study and scheduled activities.

Learners will have opportunities to network directly with Verizon leaders, offering trusted industry insights, mentorship, and potential career pathways within the telecommunications and technology sectors. The program, however, does not guarantee a job at Verizon or any other company.
