Digital Literacy

Data literacy is the ability to understand, interpret, evaluate, and communicate information effectively. It includes reading charts and reports, identifying patterns, questioning the reliability of information, and using evidence to support decisions. Data literacy is important across industries including healthcare, education, business, technology, and public service.

Modern workplaces rely heavily on digital systems, analytics, dashboards, surveys, and workplace technologies. Employees are increasingly expected to interpret information, make informed decisions, and adapt to evolving systems. Within the FutureWork™ Framework, data literacy supports workforce readiness by helping learners think critically, solve problems using evidence, communicate ideas clearly, and navigate changing career pathways.

As artificial intelligence and digital systems continue expanding, workers must understand how information is presented, recognize misinformation or bias, and use information responsibly. Data literacy helps individuals make informed decisions instead of relying on assumptions.

The FutureWork™ Framework recognizes data literacy as a foundational workforce skill because modern employees must confidently work with information in technology-driven environments. Through data literacy, learners develop the ability to evaluate information, communicate insights, adapt to workplace technologies, and contribute effectively in data-driven industries.

These six skill domains of the FutureWork™ Framework can be divided into Technical Domains: AI Literacy, Data Literacy, and Digital Literacy; and Adaptive or Humanistic Domains: Agile Thinking, Change Navigation, and Resource Optimization.
