Digital Equity & AI Readiness helps communities, schools, organizations, and workforce ecosystems strengthen access, participation, and preparedness in the Age of AI by building practical digital capability, AI literacy, and future-focused workforce readiness across diverse populations.

1. What is Digital Equity & AI Readiness?
Digital Equity & AI Readiness is designed to help communities, schools, organizations, and workforce ecosystems strengthen digital capability, AI literacy, and workforce preparedness in the Age of AI. The initiative focuses on expanding access, increasing participation, and building practical skills that support long-term economic and workforce resilience. It is supported through NJIT’s Learning and Development Initiative and its FutureWork™ ecosystem.
2. What is the FutureWork™ ecosystem?
The FutureWork™ ecosystem is NJIT LDI’s workforce readiness model designed to help individuals and organizations prepare for the evolving demands of the AI-enabled economy. It includes the FutureWork™ Framework, the FutureWork™ Inventory, and the FutureWork™ Portfolio.
3. Who can benefit from Digital Equity & AI Readiness initiatives?
These initiatives support municipalities, workforce boards, K-12 schools, colleges and universities, nonprofits, government agencies, healthcare systems, libraries, employers, and community-based organizations. Each audience can use Digital Equity & AI Readiness to strengthen digital access, improve workforce capability, and prepare people for emerging technology-driven environments.
4. How does the FutureWork™ Inventory support workforce readiness?
The FutureWork™ Inventory is a self-diagnostic assessment that helps participants evaluate readiness across critical skill domains connected to success in the Age of AI. Participants receive personalized insights that identify strengths, development opportunities, and recommended learning pathways aligned with workforce and organizational goals.
5. What learning opportunities are available through the FutureWork™ Portfolio?
The FutureWork™ Portfolio includes online courses, microcredentials, digital badges, workforce training programs, and customized learning pathways. Focus areas include AI literacy, digital literacy, data literacy, project management, AI for educators, cybersecurity, and workforce development.
6. Has NJIT LDI partnered with communities and organizations on digital equity initiatives?
Yes. NJIT’s Learning and Development Initiative has partnered with public and private organizations on workforce development and digital equity initiatives across New Jersey. Recent examples include an Essex County digital training partnership funded by the New Jersey Department of Labor and an expanded AI and cybersecurity workforce development partnership with Verizon.

As artificial intelligence increasingly shapes education, work, healthcare, communication, and public services, access to technology alone is no longer enough.
